Sketchbook To-do's

Here are some sketches I plan to flesh out into digital and gouache/coloured pencil works. I have built a bit of a queue of ideas as I've got more concepts from the past four months traveling around. My sketchbook is packed and falling apart beautifully:) I have added one, a sort of warrior princess, I did on the back of an e-ticket after I ran out of journal (so please don't mind the fold). Next time I got traveling for months on end through southeast asia I am bringing more sketchbooks...

Concept Art for The Island of Niljora

I have been working on developing the characters, creatures and environments for a story I have been writing for quite some time. Would love to turn it into an illustrated novel or a video game some day! I started by fleshing out one of the leading characters in front of the palace where he first meets my dashing heroine and a developmental sketch of my Zimhoan Zebras. Following are some excerpts from my sketchbook as I continue to conceptualize the scenes and characters...This is only the beginning!

Sequential Art

Doing some comic-booking here...Finished the penciling for these three cover illustrations, now to ink and colour them!

Illustrations in Spades

These are some designs I did for a deck of illustrated playing cards. They are inspired from one of my favourite stories from childhood, Hans Christian Anderson's The Garden of Paradise. The Jack depicts the boy who is brought to the garden of paradise by the four winds under watch of their great mother. The Joker is the beautiful princess who becomes his downfall...read it, it's cool:) http://hca.gilead.org.il/paradise.html

See it, Draw it

Though I mostly enjoy drawing from my imagination, it never hurts to do some life studies so that I have some mental references:) The sites and people I have encountered traveling become fodder for my own inventions:) The portrait is of a friend who has such amazing intensity to his face, love it:) The model study was just from a ten minute pose but I liked his expression and disposition. The portrait of the older man I saw while traveling in England, so stoic! The ballerinas were drawn from a ballet I saw in Sydney called 'Manon'. Can't resist drawing something so romantic...And then, when there is nothing else you can always draw what you find in your veggie drawer:)
